The Newness Has
Worn Off
Six weeks in, your student is finding out which high school habits still work and which ones college has outgrown.
What they may be feeling
The excitement of starting college has worn off, and the reality of managing classes, friendships, roommates, sleep, and independence can hit all at once. A bad grade or hard week may feel much bigger when everything is still new.
What may be happening
Your student is learning where their high school habits still work and where college requires something different. They may need more structure, better routines, or support they haven't had to ask for before.
The Career Check-In
Career decisions can stay small right now. Ask what they're learning about themselves through college so far. Which classes hold their attention? What feels easier than expected? What drains them? Those observations are useful career information.
Choose one experience from the first six weeks of college and name what it taught them about how they work, learn, or engage.
Email a professor and schedule office hours.
